🧠 Roadside Wonders Trivia: Did You Know?

We covered a lot of ground today! Here are some of the quirky highlights from our trivia challenge:

  • Lucy the Elephant (New Jersey): She is a 6-story tall elephant built in 1881. You can actually walk inside her and look out over the Atlantic Ocean from the "howdah" on her back!

  • The Giant Lobster (Shediac, New Brunswick): Standing at 35 feet long, this is a "must-photo" for cruisers visiting the Lobster Capital of the World.

  • The Swimming Pigs (Bahamas): Located at Big Major Cay, these famous pigs swim out to meet your boat. It is easily one of the most Instagrammed spots in the world!

  • The Fremont Troll (Seattle): This 18-foot tall giant lives under the Aurora Bridge and is actually clutching a real Volkswagen Beetle in his hand!

  • The Big Basket (Ohio): A 7-story office building shaped like a basket. The handles are even heated in the winter to prevent ice from falling!

  • Somerset Bridge (Bermuda): Known as the "World's Smallest Drawbridge," the opening is only 32 inches wide, just enough for a sailboat mast to pass through.

Welcome to Travel Wives

We’re so glad you found us! We’re Kahla and Shannon, sisters-in-law who share one big thing in common… we’re both married to travel agents. The trips we wish we were on (because let’s be real, travel agents often book other people’s vacations while we stay home). The hilarious behind-the-scenes stories that don’t make it into the glossy brochures. Honest reviews, packing tips, and plenty of cocktails-and-carry-on moments. This blog is an extension of our new podcast, Travel Wives , where we chat about all things travel, family, and the ups and downs of being ...

Our Deep Dive Recap: Royal Caribbean's Jewel of the Seas

The TravelWives are officially back on shore! We're Shannon and Kahla, and we're here to give you all the specific, must-know, sometimes-hilarious details about our sailing on Royal Caribbean’s Jewel of the Seas. This trip was the perfect mix of relaxation, amazing food, and learning a few cruise hacks along the way. Pre-Cruise Perfection: Hollywood Beach is a Must Let’s start with the non-negotiable step: the pre-cruise stay. Cruising out of Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades) is easy, but you absolutely have to fly in the night before. Kathleen and Kahla arrived early and stayed right in Hollywood Beach, FL. Seriously, book it! The area is fantastic, the Broadwalk is a whole vibe, and you can practically taste the ocean air already. It’s the best way to kick off a vacation and avoid travel day stress. Hollywood Beach Fl for the win, every single time! The Good, The Gluten-Free, and The Great Service The ship's service was outstanding, especially when it came to dining: Gl...

What is it really like being married to a travel agent? Many people assume it means unlimited vacations, champagne on the beach, and spontaneous getaways. The truth is a little different. Being part of a family travel business comes with amazing perks, surprising challenges, and plenty of stories worth sharing. In this post, we are pulling back the curtain to share a little about who we are, the misconceptions we run into, and our excitement for an upcoming cruise on Royal Caribbean’s Jewel of the Seas . Along the way, we will talk about traveling gluten free with celiac disease and why that is always part of our travel planning process. 👋 Who We Are We are Shannon and Kahla, sisters-in-law and proud members of a family-run travel company. Our husbands book dream vacations for clients through Olson Travel Group , and we see firsthand what life looks like behind the scenes.
